Guiding principle, mindset: We-are-One

Rethinking for a united humanity: controlling our primal instincts and finding common solutions

In a world characterised by conflict and crisis, it is becoming increasingly clear that we as humanity urgently need to see ourselves as a common unit.
“We-are-One” should not just be an empty phrase, but a guiding principle that inspires us to pull together and tackle the challenges that threaten our world.

‘We are one’ can be interpreted in many different ways.

Solidarity, unity: Despite differences in race, culture, and beliefs, we are fundamentally connected and unified. We are all part of the same human family, interconnected and interdependent.

Inclusivity, empathy: We highlight the importance of recognizing our commonalities rather than focusing on divisions.

Shared strength, cooperation: We come together as one, much like a trade union, to effectively represent our common interests and concerns.

It is time we recognised that the old instincts that once helped us survive are now often to our own detriment. The urge to compete, to set ourselves apart and to be superior to other groups may have made sense in a primitive environment, but in a globalised world it leads to conflict, war and mutual destruction.

The climate crisis is an urgent example of how our primal instincts prevent us from acting together. Instead of seeing ourselves as part of a global ecosystem in which we all depend on each other, we tend to prioritise short-term personal gain over long-term planetary stability. But the reality is that climate change knows no borders and affects us all, regardless of nationality, religion or political persuasion.

Similarly, wars and armed conflicts are often the result of a lack of understanding and empathy towards other people. By viewing each other as enemies and engaging in a constant struggle for resources and power, we put ourselves and our world at risk. Only through co-operation, diplomacy and a belief in our common humanity can we secure peace and save ourselves from the worst effects of war.

It is time for a change in thinking and action. We must learn to control our primal instincts and focus instead on what unites us: our humanity. We need to stop fighting each other and instead work together to create a better world for us all. This is the only way we can solve the pressing problems such as wars and the climate crisis that threaten our world. It is time for us to recognise that we are one – and that collective action is the only solution.
